International Committee
of the Red Cross
"The International Committee of the Red Cross
(ICRC) is an impartial, neutral and independent organization whose
exclusively humanitarian mission is to protect the lives and dignity
of victims of war and internal violence and to provide them with assistance.
It directs and coordinates the international relief activities conducted
by the Movement in situations of conflict. It also endeavours to prevent
suffering by promoting and strengthening humanitarian law and universal
humanitarian principles. Established in 1863, the ICRC is at the origin
of the International Red Cross and Red Crescent Movement."
International
Rescue Committee
"Founded in 1933, the International Rescue
Committee (the IRC) is a leading nonsectarian, voluntary organization
providing relief, protection and resettlement services for refugees
and victims of oppression or violent conflict."
MSF, Doctors Without Borders
"M»decins Sans FrontiÀres (also known as Doctors
Without Borders or MSF) delivers emergency aid to victims of armed
conflict, epidemics, and natural and man-made disasters, and to others
who lack health care due to social or geographical isolation. MSF
was founded in 1971 by a small group of French doctors who believed
that all people have the right to medical care and that the needs
of these people supersede respect for national borders. It was the
first non-governmental organization to both provide emergency medical
assistance and publicly bear witness to the plight of the populations
they served."
Refugees
International
"Founded in 1979, Refugees International (RI)
is an independent international organization serving as the voice
for refugees, displaced persons, and vulnerable people. We bring to
the attention of governments, the media, and the public the plight
of people in danger in remote corners of the world."
ReliefWeb
"ReliefWeb
is a project of the United Nations Office for the Coordination of
Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA)."
