Narrative account of the experience of the Gardez detainees included in the report by military prosecutors.

Partial translation:

"Eight individuals who were on duty [at the checkpoint] were beaten, hand cuffed and transferred to the allied forces headquarters in Gardez City. According to their own statements, there were in custody in the camp for 17 days and were severely tortured (from beating to pulling fingernails) by Americans. One of the individuals, by the name of Jamal, son of Ghazi, died as a result of torture. It has been stated that after the death of suspect Jamal, the commander of the American forces in Gardez communicated with the brother of the murdered individual, Naseer, son of Ghazi, and expressed his regret. He also attempted to offer financial compensation for the burial expenses... Naseer, the brother of the murdered individual, rejected his offer. Later on, the American officials had contacted the city officials and other security officials of the city of Gardez and have asked them to facilitate the transfer of the body of the deceased and the other seven detainees to the security department of the city of Gardez. At around 11 PM, the officials from the security forces of the city of Gardez started to facilitate this matter. They transferred the body of the deceased, Jamal, to the Malki Hospital in Gardez and surrendered the other seven detainees to the security forces of the city of Gardez. It has been estimated that they were in custody in that location for 2 months. According to their own statements, they were treated for their injuries there. After they relatively recovered, they were transferred to the headquarters under security and an investigation was opened..."
