A statement made to military prosecutors by Abdul Qayum, the bodywasher at the hospital in Gardez who prepared Jamal's body for burial.
Translation:
"The present person has done a favour: as a Moslem eye witness and as someone who has seen the corpse of Jamal when he washed the body, he has written his observations truly and precisely concerning the injuries and bruises observed on the body.
I, Abdul Qayum, son of Fayz Mohammad, caretaker of the maternity ward, confirm that on March 17, 2003 I washed the corpse of a person named Jamal Š and witnessed that there was not an obvious injury but the body seemed green and black. The area around his knees was injured and was black and his toes were swollen and his right elbow was bruised and seemed to be burnt.
With respect
Abdul Qayum son of Fayz Mohammad (finger print)"
