Mr.
Smyth is a free-lance journalist who has covered conflicts in El
Salvador, Guatemala, Colombia, Rwanda, Eritrea, Ethiopia, Sudan
and Iraq, writing for publications including The Economist, The
Miami Herald, The Christian Science Monitor, The San Francisco Examiner,
The Village Voice, Jane's Intelligence Review and Foreign Affairs.
He has investigated arms trafficking for Human Rights Watch, and
has written op-eds for Newsday, The Washington Post, The Wall Street
Journal and The New York Times. He is currently the Latin America
project manager for the International Consortium of Investigative
Journalists of the Center for Public Integrity, a contributing editor
at IntellectualCapital.com, and the Washington Representative of
the Committee to Protect Journalists.
